When you replace the gasket on an EGR valve you have to scrape ALL the old gasket off the manifold.

This takes a lot of elbow grease because, the gasket is made out of a special sandwiched material because of the heat issues. Get a really good SHARP scraper to scrape the gasket off; right down to the BARE METAL. Use a wire brush tool made for drills and buff it off, if you have to ! Then, bolt that sucker down tight using a new gasket.

If done improperly, will always be leaky.Bad egr valve what do i do to fix it?
It will continue to set a P1406 if the EGR solenoid/switch is bad. Good luck and hope this helps.Bad egr valve what do i do to fix it?
Obviously, there is another problem here. If your car has a bad fuel mixture, the EGR valve will clog up more quickly. Most EGR valves may be cleaned when they are removed. Try cleaning your throttle body and Idle Air control valve. THese things alter the fuel mixture enough to clog up the EGR, if they are not working right. Spray Gum-out spray through the intake system, since this will dislodge any other carbon deposits that cause trouble. For best results, when everything else is clean, install a set of Bosch Fusion or Denso Iridium plugs. These burn more completely and provide more power and fuel mileage. Also, be aware that cheap fuels cause trouble with all engine components. DON'T USE CHEAP GAS. Wherever you live, use a top tier fuel. Read about this on internet. Good luck!!
