How doI change an EGR valve in 2000 Ford Taurus?

Had my car scanned at Auto Zone and they said that either need to clean out the EGR valve (carbon may be blocking) or replace it. This may not be related, but I also got a error code for secondary fuel pump circuit. But the car is running fine, just have an engine light. Any ideas? How doI change an EGR valve in 2000 Ford Taurus?
This car I think it would be the DPFE senor instead.

To tell if the egr valve is blocked put vaccum on it with the engine running and see if the engine starts missing with vaccum applied while idling. If the engine starts missing it is not the valve or stopped up with carbon. How doI change an EGR valve in 2000 Ford Taurus?
The purpose of the egr valve is to allow exhaust gases back into the intake at highway speed to improve fuel mileage. If it is held open at idle it will cause the engine to run rough. But, if there seems to be cause for doubt, carefully loosen the large nut at the exhaust manifold (while cold). YOU MAY NEED TO USE A CROWFOOT) (Special tool) this nut is a pipe fitting.

Once it is loose, remove the sensor plug, and then remove the retaining bolts (13mm) that hold the flange in place. Don't drop the gasket. Some models have the pipe coming to the valve. Same procedure. There is a vacuum diaphragm that pulls a rod back off it's seat allowing the flow of exhaust gases. You can try to blow through the valve to see if its held open.

While it's off the car, use a vacuum pump to see if the valve diaphragm is good or busted.

If the valve checks out bad or cannot be cleaned, it is a dealer only item.

Don't expect miracles with a new one. And have the dealer test the sensor while it's off the car. Tune up department man can tell if it's bad. (Ohm meter test)(Diaphragm should hold a vacuum when applied)How doI change an EGR valve in 2000 Ford Taurus?
kayef57 is correct. These vehicles had a known problem with a sensor known as a DPFE sensor which would cause p0401 and p0402 conditions. Autozone tries to sell you what they have and I've seen many people fight and actually snap the EGR pipe (pipe leading from EGR to Exhaust)and still return for the sensor.

These vehicles are not known for carbon blocking (the port where the EGR flow is introduced sometimes gets blocked up after a 100 or so thousand miles) or EGR valve concerns

Be prepared for a $100 sensor at the Ford dealer as they are the only ones that I am aware of with that sensor (If not, the zone could make a killing off of them)

Errors for the secondary fuel pump show up at times.. If nothing, happening I'd say leave it alone but possible pump relay or more common fuel pump problems if it keeps returningHow doI change an EGR valve in 2000 Ford Taurus?
DPFE stands for differential pressure feedback egr. they are egr %26quot;position %26quot; sensors. they are notoriously bad in fords. Napa sells them as well as many othe parts stores. Ford has a new design and are less than 60 bucks.
