Check with your dealer about a computer reprogram. There might be a technical service bulletin about this problem. I have a 2001 Ford Focus that had a surge at steady speeds. It wasn't a misfire, but a lean fuel condition that only happened at light throttle and steady speed.

You might start with a compression check to see if you have a weak cylinder. If you do find one, put a few squirts of oil in that hole and see if it comes up. If it does, look to needing rings soon. If it doesn't, time to pull the heads and look for burned valves. If they all read about the same...well, then I'm not sure without looking at it.

it could be that u didn't gap the spark plugs correctly or your mass airflow sensor (maf) isn't working right. I have a 99 mustang V6 3.8 and it does the same thing but only because i took the maf off. Try getting a tuner for it so the computer knows not to use the maf, or just buy a new maf : )
